MAPS: MAKING A DIFFERENCE

MAPS Media Institute is a 501c3 educational nonprofit with a mission to empower, inspire and prepare Montana's next generation for future success through professional media arts instruction, engaging community service and compassionate mentoring.

MAPS is a flagship media arts organization in Montana and serves as a model for creative youth development across the nation. In 2017, MAPS was recognized with a National Arts and Humanities Youth Programs (NAHYP) award, an honor given to the top 12 creative youth organizations in the country.

Founded in 2004 as an elective filmmaking class at Corvallis High School, MAPS taught 20 students during its inaugural year.  Since then, MAPS has become a year round media arts institute working with thousands of students from dozens of schools across Montana.

MAPS provides creative opportunities and technical instruction for Montana's youth to express themselves; to find their voice;  to share their ideas and stories; to make a difference.

The winning combination? Put professional equipment into the hands of students with the guidance of compassionate, professional artist educators.

MAPS students learn by doing: they explore their interests and dreams, stretch their imagination, share their stories, learn from professional artists and train on state-of-the-art equipment. Through hands-on classes, workshops, and on the job training, students learn communication, creative process and collaboration - concepts which are integral to cultivating successful futures.

MAPS has professional media arts studios with year round afterschool and summer programs for 8th - 12th grade students in both Ravalli and Lewis & Clark Counties. Classes include filmmaking, graphic design, music production, new technologies, entrepreneurship and community service. Our classes are free-of-charge to 8th - 12th grade students of all skill levels.
